The following is a summarized list of the services and roles performed by the race engineer for each contracted event, and should serve as a guide to the methods and organization to be expected by the contracting team.
Setup sheet.
Draft run plan for all sessions.
Data, video, circuit notes reviewed with the drivers.
At the circuit:
Flat patch setup confirmation and final adjustments.
Tyre plan and pressure management plan confirmed with tyre technician.
Brake pad/disc stock confirmation and plan update if needed, for bedding runs, etc.
Checklist review with no. 1 mechanic on all jobs prior to first run.
Session management and driver/team radio communication via pit wall/garage, maintaining own run sheets and updating the run plan as necessary.
Decision on setup adjustments during or between sessions if necessary, based on driver feedback, available data and track conditions.
Post session/ end of day debrief with drivers/team.
Data analysis and data comparison between drivers.
Troubleshoot of technical issues together with the team.
Driver development with data, video and notes between sessions.
Race strategy management.
Setdown sheet received from team, as well as reports of any other issue or point of note flagged during post-race inspection at the workshop.
Engineering report
Engineering job list sent to team (if necessary, depending on next planned outing for the car).
Assistance with component mileage tracking and service schedules (if necessary).
